Manchester United came into the match off the back of 7 consecutive victories; in contrast to their badly out of form opponents Middlesbrough. However Middlesbrough had a decent record versus United and would be hoping to add to those statistics.
United came out as they meant to go on and took only 3 minutes to get the go ahead goal. Nani seemingly going no where smashed an absolute cracking shot from 30 yards leaving keeper Mark Schwarzer with no chance.
While the Red Devils started to ponder just how many they might bang in, striker Tuncay managed to get a cross in to the box for Jeremie Aliadiere to sneak in a 7th minute equalizer.
The equalizer shook Manchester's confidence and it took them another 20 minute to get back into their stride.
In the 32nd minute Downer had the ball in his own area and used a bit of skill to evade Nani's challenge only to play the ball right into Wayne Rooney's feet. Rooney hammered the ball into the net, with the power getting the best of Schwarzer.
United totally dominated the rest of the first half with Middlesbrough not able to get the ball out of their end and continued to dominate after the break.
It took only 10 minutes into the second half for Rooney to link up with Tevez, who put in Manchester's third goal of the afternoon.
The Middlesbrough defence got no rest bite as United moved forward with wave after wave of attack.
In the 84th minute Rooney made a lovely break and slid the ball into the box for Tevez to run on to. His shot was block by a defenders arm but ricocheted up comically over the goalie and into the net.
This marked the 4th game in a row where United have scored 4 goals.
